Chairman’s Random Pairs Competition 2026

Last Saturday was our first club competition of the season.  Unfortunately our Chairman Keith was not well that day and unable to oversee the competition, he is now feeling a lot better. The weather was a bit chilly and the odd shower but it didn’t hinder the competition. We had a fabulous turn out with 32 entries, and we welcomed some of our new members which is great. To complete the pairings we had a few men play for the ladies but they didn’t mind.

The first and second rounds as usual had some very close matches, we then had two semi finals between Sue Mountford and Mike McCormick v Noreen Lewis and Colin Milnes and Pauline Rimmer and Dave Williams v Barry McArthur and Dave Rimmer, Noreen and Colin came through after a very close game to play Barry and Dave in the final.  Barry and Dave were on fire and they beat Noreen and Colin 21-11 in the final.  Congratulations to Barry and Dave our 2026 Chairman’s Pairs winners.  This is the first competition Barry has won.

Those who lost in the first round went onto play in the consolation round and once again some very tough matches. We ended up with two semi finals between Janet Maxwell and Allen Mountford v Joan Sanderson and John Townsend and Janice Hobson and Geoff Bixter v Pat Cropper and Mo Ahmady. Joan and John came through to play against Pat and Mo in the final. Pat and Mo played so well and they beat Joan and John 21-6. Congratulations to Pat and Mo our 2026 Consolation winners. This is the first competition Pat has won.

We would like to thank all members who attended and those who came to support. Thank you to Rita, Pauline, Paula and Sue Davies who all made sandwiches. All the people who helped in the kitchen preparing the buffet and with tea and coffee. Thank you to those who donated to the raffle and thank you to those who sold the raffle tickets.  A special thank you to Sue Davies who ran the competition – not an easy task. Thank you to our President Tony Wakefield who stepped in to present the prizes.
